WEST JAKARTA – The Molca team has claimed first place at the Ericsson Hackathon 2024, held at PIDI 4.0 in West Jakarta on Tuesday (Dec 10). This prestigious competition was organized by Ericsson, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) and several partners, aiming to accelerate manufacturing transformation in Indonesia through the use of Generative AI and 5G connectivity.
The innovation that led Molca to victory was its Digital Twin + AI project, an integrated solution that merges cutting-edge technologies to support smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0. This technology enables seamless management of data from various sources—such as IoT systems and enterprise software—into a unified digital platform. By utilizing 3D replicas of real-world environments, Molca’s solution enhances real-time data visualization, improves decision-making, boosts operational efficiency, and minimizes machine downtime.
Krishna Patil, Head of Ericsson Indonesia, expressed his pride in the participants’ achievements.
“This hackathon reflects our commitment to innovation in the manufacturing sector through Generative AI and advanced 5G technologies. We are proud to see solutions that effectively address real industrial challenges in Indonesia,” he said.
Molca’s Digital Twin solution leverages AI as a digital assistant that provides real-time insights into operational performance—such as machine downtime, root causes, and production efficiency. The platform also enables continuous monitoring and multi-platform access, including VR, AR, web, and mobile devices. This innovation is expected to help usher Indonesia’s manufacturing sector into a new era of intelligent operations.
The event also offered participants the opportunity to collaborate with sponsors, join accelerator programs, and compete for a total prize of IDR 50 million. Submissions were evaluated based on three main criteria:
Use of Generative AI for transformation,
Connectivity through 5G, and
Relevance to real-world industrial challenges.
Collaboration for the Future of Industry 4.0
Drs. Masrokhan, Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), highlighted the importance of strategic collaborations such as the Ericsson Hackathon 2024.
“This event empowers young innovators to enhance the application of Generative AI and 5G technologies in driving productivity and innovation within Indonesia’s manufacturing sector,” he stated.
Other standout teams included Mentos from the University of Indonesia, which won second place with a real-time production monitoring system powered by IoT, AI, and 5G, and OpenMachine, which placed third with a Digital Twin and Generative AI–based solution designed to support mineral downstream industry transformation.
The final event was attended by notable figures such as Ronni Nurmal, Director of Ericsson Indonesia, Masrokhan of BPSDMI, and various digital transformation experts from multiple institutions. Through initiatives like this hackathon, Indonesia continues to make strides toward digital transformation in manufacturing, aligned with the vision of Indonesia Emas 2025.
